Local ethics committee
In summer 2018, a local ethics committee began its work at the DIE advising scientists on ethical research. Members from all DIE departments are represented in the local ethics committee to competently and appropriately assess the interdisciplinary work at the DIE.
The DIE’s local ethics committee operates according to the DGfE, DPGs and DFG guidelines thus considering the interdisciplinary work at the DIE. This offers a wide range with regard to the processing of personal research data, both in terms of data collection methods (e.g., questionnaires, performance tests, interviews) and the evaluation of data (qualitative and quantitative analyses).
The local ethics committee’s work at the DIE serves scientific quality assurance. By closely linking ethical and data protection aspects, the committee plays an important role in shaping a sustainable and transparent research process. This means the local ethics committee of the DIE is an important building block in a research-guided future perspective at the DIE.
Chairman: Prof. Dr. Andreas Martin
Vice-Chairman: Dr. Christian Bernhard-Skala
Ombudspersons for good scientific practice have been acting at the DIE since 2019. The scientific staff at the DIE have elected the ombudspersons Prof. Dr. Irit Bar-Kochva and her deputy Dr. Thomas Jung for a three-year term.
Decentralized ombudspersons are the first point of contact in universities and non-university research institutions such as the DIE for questions and advice on good scientific practice and for mediation in cases of conflict in scientific misconduct cases. The ombudspersons are supported by the central ombudsman committee of the Leibniz Association and the "Ombudsman for Science" from the DFG.
Contact with the ombudspersons of the DIE is confidential. This can be done by telephone, in a personal conversation or by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
There is also the possibility of anonymous contact via a contact form.
In addition, all employees have the option of contacting the DFG's supra-regional "Ombudsman for Science" committee
